  Sura 17 Aya 78

Keep up prayer from the time when the sun declines till the darkness of night, and keep the recitation at dawn: for, behold, the recitation at dawn is indeed witnessed.

The traditional interpretation of this aya is that it is an injunction about the ritual prayers: in the afternoon, at sunset, at night, and in the morning. But read the aya again, or another translation of it, and notice it presents a broader view of prayer. It does not specify particular times but asks us to keep up prayer during the day and the night, to stay mindful of the reality that God is with you. We gain strength by remembering God’s favors and asking for His help every time we do it.

Interrupting your workday with short periods of prayer prevents you from feeling overwhelmed, and it keeps you in touch with the larger reality. How we can use this insight in the busy lives of today will be discussed in our meeting.
