Stages of Awareness

I swear by the glow of sunset
And by the night as it gathers
And by the moon growing to its fullness
You will surely move from stage to stage.
(84:16-20)
Everything in nature changes continuously. Just as the glow of sunset is followed by the night and as the moon goes through its stages so do people move from stage to stage. There are the visible changes from childhood, adulthood and old age, but more importantly, people go through stages of spiritual awareness. Three stages of spirituality are identified in the Quran. The first is heedlessness, the second is self-questioning and the third is bliss. Our meeting will focus on the how stages of faith are manifested in people and how our choices affect our spiritual progress.
